About

Ella Herman is a photographer who explores portrait, fashion, and nature photography. She is especially fond of fashion photography that tells a fictional narrative through the outfits, scenes, and characters she creates. Her project titled Cinderella Goes Punk is a good example of this style. Her love of vintage fashion, historical structures, and nature are prominent aspects of her photography.

While growing up in Tenafly, New Jersey, her passion for photography began in middle school when her father let her borrow his prized Minolta SRT-102, a camera he has owned since he was a teenager.  After learning on film, she transitioned to using a mixture of analog and digital methods.

Ella has taken photography classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology and several classes at the International Center of Photography, including participation in the advanced Imagemakers program. She is now a photography major in the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design at Drexel University. Her work centers around themes of feminism, fantasy, human relationships, and youth.

Ella’s favorite quote is, “Taking pictures is like tiptoeing into the kitchen late at night and stealing Oreo cookies.” - Diane Arbus.
